Cork gigs 2025

Either way - I wouldn't be seen dead at a UB40 show - there's a far better gig on in Coughlan's the same night - for about €20. Cola as listed above. ⬆️

Just reminded myself of something.

My brother went to the ill-fated and disastrous UB40 show in Millstreet 20 years ago.

He said it was the closest that he'll ever get to combat warfare.

The Kearney's coaches mini-bus had a last chopper out of Saigon buzz about it.

Just looked - about 75 lids after you pay the fees and whatnot. Suffering fuck!

I'm confused though - who's singing for them? The Cork gig is advertised as UB40.

But the gigs later in the summer including Limerick are being promoted as UB40 featuring Ali Campbell.

Ali Campbell and Astro fell out with Duncan Campbell.

Helpfully both outfits tour as UB40 but the one in the barrs will have some Ringer I've never heard of singing and presumably also doing the "red red wine make ya feel so fine" rap

I see. Who's in the band playing in Togher? Robin Campbell and a dupe singer?

And then Ali Campbell is in the other UB40 with a dupe guitar player? They're who's playing in Limerick.

This is not complicated at all. :lol!:

The Skids are playing in Cyprus Avenue (support from The Membranes) on November 7th.

I was tempted to go - mainly as a check-list exercise because I have never seen them live. Looking at the line-up though - it's basically just a Richard Jobson-fronted tribute.

I'm not expecting Jobson to raise Stuart Adamson from the dead and go on tour with him or anything (if he did, the resurrected Adamson would probably opt to play with Big Country* instead anyway) but it's very much trading on the name now.

It's a Friday night though and if I can find someone I know who A. has heard of The Skids and B. is willing to go, then it might be a solid evening out.

*Oddly enough - Big Country are playing in Cyprus Avenue this year too and they also only have one original member amongst them - Bruce Watson.

That's the same Bruce Watson who normally plays guitar for The Skids... unless Big Country are on tour at the same time.

cool story for the bro's

I used stay in a squat in brixton in the early 90s when I'd be in London (half of cork was in brixton at that stage)

one very cold winter evening I arrived a bit early in from cork so had to wait outside til the girls who lived there arrived home from work, it was absolutely perishing

then a lady from the house opposite came out and asked was I ok, I think she was Indian, defo south asian of some sort anyways, I told her I was just waiting for the two girls in the gaff opposite so she invited me in to her place out of the cold. So we were having a cuppa while I watched the house for lights on meaning one or both of the girls were home.... then I noticed some framed silver and/or gold discs on the wall for a punk band, I'm 99% sure it was the Skids... then her BF/husband arrived, small feller, bit aggressive finding this stranger in his house but it was quickly explained I was just waiting out of the cold

I think I was told he'd been their manager or agent or something

anyhoo, not long after that the girls arrived home so I got out of there to avoid yer mano as he clearly wan't pleased and legged it across the road

around 9 months later I was back in London so wanted to pop in and say thanks to the lady for her kindness but it turned out she had passed away in the meantime :(

--------

I've told that story to many folks in London over the years and they all said it could never happen, NO ONE in London would EVER invite a stranger into their house I was told

but it's true

Sleeper playing c.a. in the autumn

loved indie princess Louise Wener back in the day

As I said to a friend of mine the other day when I saw this announced - that's the office Christmas party organised by indie head Linda in HR sorted.

Credentials: Stills wear Converse - once a year, has heard of Arctic Monkeys and previously owned albums by Blur, Elastica and Menswear.

Last year this spot was filled by Cast, next year it will be Gene (who, despite recent news stories are still going ahead with their tour).
