Cork Footballers

Game is much like Hurling now where no big lead will guarantee you a win.
Cork were very good in the first half today and some poor decisions from players and subs being poor cost them the game. They were very unlucky not to win with the last kick of the game
McDonnell 15 and Walsh 8 both excellent but were taken off with 7/8 minutes to go from some strange reason. Patrick Doyle was good in goals. Dan O Mahoney was solid at 3
Paul Walsh 10 and Taylor 7 very poor the second half. Forwards lived off scraps for a large part of the second half. I wouldn’t be extremely worried about the result as Cork never gave up and the game was there for the taking until the very end. Tough conditions away from home against a decent Down side.
How did jones play?

Not correct. We beat Roscommon in the championship just 18 months ago.
I’ll never forget it as I thought Roscommon that day played the most negative football I have ever seen. They were absolutely dreadful.
Correct and they were very negative blew it for themselves, that was a big win for cork, they have had our number in the league and while not unbeatable are definitely stronger with the likes of Ciaran Murtagh back and Ben o’carroll fit

Jones took his goal well and was very involved in the first half. Definitely a quieter than normal for him but wasn’t for lack of effort, supply was limited in the second half in parts

I was at the Meath and down game and the game changed in both games Powter was taken off. I actually travel up to do today. They were actually superb in the first half attacking wise but when Powter went off they just lack shape and structure. I’m a probably his biggest fan here but it’s obvious how important he is to this team
Fair dues to you @CORK4SAM, @jams, and anybody else who went up to support the team.

And I agree with you about Powter. I have seen the same in other games, and I did wonder if that might have been a factor when he went off. He's an extremely important player for us.

A rossie was so intent on fluting around near the end he fouled the ball & we swooped

Conor Corbett with a lovely goal off a Brian O”Driscoll assist earlier … hopefully CC can comeback in the near future

What injury did Powter get ? i read a report it was a head injury ? Hes a great bit of stuff but just like Brian Hurley the injurys they have had ...but they recover and come back time and time again....and have won NOTHING some McGrath Cups and a division 3 title/ you would hope that these two and the like of Ian Maguire ...Mattie could win even a Muunster Championship medal...
Who knows it might happen some time great players great servants.

interesting point about havign a good lead not guaranteeing a win, in fact it may have the opposite effect in that teams are more inclined to be cautious and try to play keepball when ahead, wind is also going to be a bigger factor with the two pointers.
