If it was a book keeping gimmick they wouldn't have courted the publicity. Plenty of valuable sites in Cork, with and without planning permission, that are being sat on for various reasons, would have been quite easy for them to do the same and keep their mouths shut. Saying that neither development makes any sense to me. It looks like the Prism is starting before the end of the month anyway. Who knows maybe we end up with a thriving 15 storey start up hub and an a 140 metre 5 star Sofitel with an apple store and an on site brewery, or maybe we end up with a half finished tower?There was always a smell of something dodgy off those animals. Those two schemes in Cork were always book keeping gimmicks, would be surprised if anything is built on them for another decade.
This is massive :
Infairness O Callaghan Properties have done a lot for this city;
Rehab hospital, 2,000 homes, and 5,000 jobs in huge new Cork City South Docks scheme
The plan includes new life for the Odlums building and will seek permission for the demolition of the former R&H Hall concrete grain silo building on the city sidewww.irishexaminer.com
Last one looks cool, I have argued all along that we can marry both new and old together...
This is an enormous ambitious scheme for Cork and with all the other developments planned for the South Docks down as far as the Pairc a positive step in developing an under utilised land bank adjacent to the city centre. Also the North docks and Tivoli to follow down the line.
Great news for Cork. Credit due to O'Callaghan's. They have a track record of delivering.
Glad to see that the concrete silos will be demolished. Some people wanted to keep them, but they are ugly damn things. Doing a nice job on the Odlums building too.
Someone is bound to want to retain those ugly silos and object but they have a very weak case.
I think that the City Council have a preservation order on those silos?
