Galway lead 6-3 at HT after playing with a strong breeze. Poor enough standard - both sides working very hard but a lot of fumbles and poor touches, especially early on.

Cork went more than twenty minutes without a score. Full-back line doing well, but for a long time the ball was too slow out of defence and running moves broke down. Half-forwards struggling to get much possession. Not a bad deficit but will need to use the wind better than Galway did.

Cork seemed a long way off the heights of last summer.

5 points suggests it was comfy enough for Galway. It wasn't. There wasn't much in it but Galway deserved the win.
