Chris Wilder goes bang.

strange timing, if they blame him for their position surely they should
have got rid months ago? Maybe theyl get Big sam in to save them?
oh wait,

Major bones of contention apparently
- Wilder resistant to a DoF coming in
- Board's unwillingness to pay high enough wages to players
- Board pull a u-turn on plan to bring in two Jan loan signings

Taking them up from League 1 to PL (...with such a high finish) in 3 seasons was great going tbf

he did a great job for them, this season was weird alright and they're doomed alas but he should have at least been given a chance next season to turn it around

That goes some way to explaining it.
I know he wasted money on McBurnie but at the same time he got Berge in too, who's decent.

Ramsdale avoided the Championship for a year.

Rhian Brewster being utter dogshit didn't help and Jack O'Connell's longterm injury unbalanced their defence.

Wilder not being happy with how things were being run behind the scenes sounds about right. Would have been instrumental in getting them back up imo.

Harsh that a guy is not allowed one bad season now after three excellent ones. And this isn't exactly a normal season to be making sweeping decisions like this.

His promotion season from the Championship is one of the great managerial achievements in English football in the last while. As we are seeing again this year with Norwich, Watford and even Bournemouth, it's hard for non parachute-payment clubs in the Championship to compete.

That year, Sheffield United managed to get promoted ahead of loaded yo-yo clubs like West Brom and Fulham, deservedly keeping their nerve over a four-month head to head battle with Biesla's Leeds.

Next year, they would have been the team coming down with the parachute money so in theory, promotion would be easier than in 2018-2019. As Norwich are doing. Now it's a full reset and who knows what will happen.

They totally overperformed last season and that created the stick to beat him with.

If they had barely survived last season they may have been better prepared to stay in the league this season.

Some won’t believe in it but I think no fans has hurt them more than others. They had made Bramall Lane into a really hard place to go to with the help of the home support. They weren’t half the team upon returning from lockdown, combined with injuries to the back 3 which doesn’t help of course.

Also their purchases up front completely backfired. McBurnie is probably the worst striker to ever play in the PL. Brewster has failed them badly too. They needed all these things to go right to stay competing.
