Bonfire Night

Ah those were the days. Bonna always meant the last days of the primary school year, my birthdays only a few days away and I don't ever remember it raining on that night.

Good memories..... (wipes one solitary tear from eye...)

As it's approaching on the 23rd of this month , what memories do you have of ''bonnas'' gone by?

Back in the day my mates and i never needed an excuse, It was bonna night every night of the week up in the fields, Be it the Mon, farranferris, Suzis or Tuckers. We could get a fire going with two small sticks and a bit of paper.
When they knocked the Brothers house up in the mon the wood kept us going for weeks.

The Carrigaline pipe band used to march to St Johns well on St John's Eve. At the well the priest would say the rosary and the crowd follow the pattern around the well (thats the local tradition). I have happy memories of being at the bonna hearing the bagpipe music drift across the valley....happy days indeed.
