I'd prefer to incapacitate rather than restrain, my own safety first would come first. Anyway as I said back along in this thread I'd be waiting at the top of the stairs and if they didn't come up they'd be safe enough. If a burglar comes upstairs in your home you can certainly make the assumption that he isn't going to be playing nice... that's where the baseball bat to the face comes in as he gets to the top. Obviously I wouldn't proceed to beat him to death however if the initial strike was a fatal it's his own fault for going too far in the first place.
