The Official Lenient Sentence Thread

Lack of prison places is the main reason for this.

Only people who don't see the purpose of non custodial sentences.

If the lack of prison places by your own admission means that those charged and found guilty of serious crimes aren't doing enough of a custodial sentence then the justice system is not working properly

Society at large needs to be protected from serious criminals and repeat offenders. Joe Public tends not to be as concerned about the purpose of non-custodial sentences as he/she is about justice being seen to be done.

If you're going to repeatedly act the gowl, have a criminal record, and if you're caught having assaulted someone unprovoked, then you need to be taken away from Society, not for your betterment necessarily, but in order for the greater good of society.

Little wonder the scrote laughed his way through the court case despite all the evidence against him. He knew that due to the lack of sufficient prison space he'd effectively get a slap on the wrists. The same type of light-touch he'd previously benefited from without learning his lesson

Fair play to the El Sals.
Know how to treat scum.

We need a task force, led by BlarneyMan and SoundY, to head down the scum areas and round up any fighting age man.

Nah, far better the pearl-clutchers like you would worry about the mental-health of those who have lengthy criminal records and wonder how society in general has left them down

I suspect that one of the main reasons for shorter/suspended sentence is a shortage of prison space. Our prisons are completely packed like, where are we meant to put people?

Essentially it's a handy time to be committing crimes in Ireland.

But if judges are giving suspended sentences because there is no space in prisons (which is none of their business), then there is no pressure on Prison Services and government to address this issue, they can easily shove their head in sand and just keep going. Who gives a fuck that you have extremely dangerous people on the streets, we'll take a chance for a murder now and then

This/any, different meaning.
