The Official Irish Rugby Thread

What about this idea being suggested ? Seems to be more beneficial for the English mind :

Standard bollocks from the Welsh.
They really want matches like relatively local matches against Bath, Gloucester and and Bristol.
The inverse isn't particularly true, Bristol fans aren't mad keen on playing Dragons

How could URC clubs possibly trust English clubs, the same ones who screwed us over in the Heineken. In any case this is the same old Welsh idiots wanting to join the English but the English want us.

Unlike when this has previously been raised, the IRFU are actually the ones with the bargaining power see as it's our sides bring the financial value and stability. The English meanwhile all seem on the verge

The only thing is, it's a proper league over there with proper clubs getting great crowds and atmospheres most weekend. It's a contrast with Munster playing most home games in front of ghost stadiums until the big derbies or European matches come around.

There's also the whole issues of the provinces (Leinster mainly) hardly ever fielding proper sides. I don't think it's possible to merge union owned franchises in a league with privately owned clubs.

If it's the Welsh looking for it, then the URC's value would increase if it were able to ditch the Welsh.

Not with out a spending cap anyways and no way Leinster (with central contracts included) will go for that when they are out spending most top French teams

The average is basically the same between the URC and the English premiership, 11k Vs 12k.

The problem with the URC is there's lots of oversized stadia

A properly bankrupt league
