I'm reading a big factor since 2016 is the carbon plated running shoes. Is there an asterix to be drawn next to a lot of these recent records?

Crowd were brilliant on the tight track. Some carry on from the pack not getting out of his way - he had to run at least 400m in lane 2

The shoes are available to everyone - and in fairness, the immediate predecessors of these shoes were well ahead of what was there twenty years perviously. Tracks evolve too - they are way faster now than they used to be. Then you have the pacing lights added to most big tracks now too.

Along with improved training and eh, vitamins, it's all part of the evolution of times in the sport.
