I totally forgot Efrem Gidey was running this morning. Top performance to come 15th in 60:51 - that's just two seconds off of Cragg's 60:49

Here's his stats - very strong and very consistent.

I think it's a record for an Irish runner - Cragg being South African for the business of records or something. He was two seconds slower than Cragg.

Gidey has been driving it on goodo this year - with serious performances this past few months - sub-23 for the lucan 5-miler a few weeks ago. He's just turned 24 so there's more to come hopefully. He went out hard on Sunday too - 14:16 for the first 5k was a strong statement

The Kenyan anti-doping agency (ADAK) has not been able to carry out extensive drug testing in the country because of a cut in funding from the Kenyan government. “A total of 38 athletes were banned by AIU in 2022, but the figures dropped to 29 in 2023, while ADAK banned 34 athletes in 2022, as the cases rose to 60 in 2023,” (link).


Kenya, which is in the midst of an endemic doping crisis, has avoided being banned from international sporting events by committing to spend $5m dollars on anti-doping over the next five years. It is the money from this budget that has now not been transferred to the Kenyan anti-doping agency (link).

This major crisis, if unresolved, is likely to lead to WADA placing the country in non-compliance(link). The French website Spe15 has written about the ongoing doping crisis in Kenya. “As proof, there are currently 44 Kenyan women suspended out of a total of 100... In France, once again, a Kenyan marathon runner has been suspended for testing positive, after her victory at the Nice Cannes marathon in 2022,” (link).

I saw that alright. KADA funding cut from 248milliln schillings to 20 (about 2 million euros to about 200k)

They're saying themselves they will be declared non compliant with WADA

Jaysus, the episodes are short! Worth a watch though - some serious psychological connection between those three boys….
Not radically different from the family doc series they did years ago but obviously the old man doesn’t feature in this one.

Interestingly they hadn't sold out a 5000 seat stadium as of yesterday. That's 5k not 50k.

I guess we'll know how successful it is if they run it next year

Gabby Thomas would shift a fair number of tickets i would have thought by herself.

Its mad in a world where The NFL combine and UFC weighins can sell 5k ish tickets that its not the hottest ticket In town.

I'm not Megan thee Stallion's biggest fan (Greatest Hits only not all the Albums like), but i would have thought she'd be a slam dunk for an NYC young crowd.

They clearly want to get new fans into the sport post Olympics it hardly matters that the athlete's seasons have been over about 3 weeks now.
