Chris MacManus said there were 'positive' parts of the budget

A Sinn Féin MEP has welcomed regional funding from the EU, despite voting against a budget that facilitated it.
Chris MacManus hailed €217m for Connacht, Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan in recent days, even though in December 2020 he voted against a budget which that funds it.
The money comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which is facilitated by the EU’s Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF) and member state governments.
The MFF is the overall EU budget for every seven-year period and sets out funding for major programmes, including the ERDF.
Mr MacManus, who represents Midlands Northwest, voted against the MFF two years ago, saying it was not a budget Sinn Féin would “stand for”.
According to a statement that explained the MEP’s vote, the MFF budget did not line up with the “priorities” and “type” of Europe the party envisages.
“The underpinning logic of the EU creating its own taxes to fund the budget is another major issue for Sinn Féin,” he said.
“Supporting this budget would mean supporting €7bn for the arms industry and €5.5bn on the EU’s disgraceful border policies while Pillar II support (CAP) will be cut in real terms.
Where do they even get these eejits?
The whole being both for and against things depending on which side of the border you are on or what is topical on Joe Duffy's radio show must be exhausting.Any good news must be claimed, In the north all bad news is the fault of westminster, but if any money finds its way there it is a case
