People still get to decide what they want. If someone doesn’t want to donate their organs then they simply opt out.

In that case, the State should write to every adult and parent in the country and get their explicit answer as to whether to opt in or opt out. But that is not what is happening here. Most people will have no idea about this measure as there will be no publicity campaign around and no canvassing of each citizen's personal wishes.

You are of the view that an article in the II is sufficient to inform the entire Irish populus of this new measure! Anyway, how will this work in practice? How will the medical practioniers in the critical moments after a person's death be able to check whether that individual has opted in or out? If a person has died and their body is stripped of its vital organs even though they opted out, can the State/medics be sued? Any legal eagles on here might be able to answer that.

In all logic, will you tell me please in what way are organs vital in a dead body ?

This has been very well flagged over the last few years. I’m sure the operational details will be announced in due course and GPs should be able to advise people who wish to opt out how they can do that.

My son's girlfriend will be voting in the Polish presidential election from Cork next Sunday. She hasn't lived there for 21 years but still gets to vote. Voting will take place in the Greenmount and Mon schools.

Why shouldn't our emigrants have the same option when abroad ?

A very valid point. I suppose our diaspora is larger than our own population so it would present risks. I’d have no issue with it if they restricted it to people who have lived in Ireland for at least 5 years out of the last 10 or something to that effect.

No I think anyone who leaves this country no longer has a say in the running of it.
The running of a country effects those that live there directly, not those who don't so all the best and take your opinions with ye.
