We now have over 833000 people living here over the age of 65, which is increasing all the time, This will be a problem
for future governments, It is very popular to say you will give full pension from the age of 65.

And the state pension has consistently fallen behind the rate of inflation driving the elderly into poverty.

Shameful.

Universal so full pension on retirement is non-negotiable. The trick will be the moving of retirement age out beyond 65.

In one of Leo's last interviews on TV he questioned why the state should be responsible for the elderly and sick. Then stated it should be up to their families to look after them.
This about a generation who dragged us all out of difficulties.

He was gone a few days later, as should this government in the next election.
 
It won't be immigrants it will be those living here paying tax. That will include whatever immigrant population we might have.

Point being old age pension like other universal benefits are non negotiable. The only thing I could see that might be applied is an opt out clause where if you felt you didn't require it or could go without then you had that option.

The demographics show that with a falling birth rate here and in N.I. increasingly it will immigrants will be making up a huge shortfall in revenue.


Time for politicians to be honest with people and raise the retirement age.
