The next Government

Who will form the next government

  • Total voters
    56
  • Poll closed .
Id say it was carried out before their housing document but worrying for SF it was after their new policy on migration , They dont seem to have got any bounce from that, But the poll also found that 72% agree that more immigrants should be housed in affluent areas, I agree they need to take their fair share,
The affluent areas is absolutely rubbish, the facts are being completely ignored here of course.
If a building in an affluent area goes up for sale, it is sold and probably redeveloped very quickly as these affluent areas are the exact same as the sought after areas.
The likes of Blackpool and Churchfield just do not have the same appeal as Douglas and Rochestown.

They’ve a huge amount of TDs retiring at the next election. It’ll be interesting to see how their replacements do. It could be a blessing or a curse.
14 out of the 15 vacated seats they are predicted to retain apparently.

S.F. recent half-hearted announcements and pivots on asylum seekers and housing have not got them anywhere in the pools.

From todays Irish Times:

I live in the middle class area of Rathmines/Ranelagh, where we have a hotel and four buildings owned by property developers housing several hundred asylum seekers. And there has been no trouble.

Volunteers leafleted the area to prevent anti-asylum seeker misinformation being circulated. Praise is due, in particular, for the small group of brilliant people – most of them women – who have almost single-handedly supported the homeless asylum seekers for whom there is no accommodation.

Generally a curse. Possession nine tenths of the law where a dail seat is concerned. You can be the victim of tide going against you nationally but generally a TD that puts in the work locally builds a profile and familiarity with constituents that will aid him/her come election time.
Good operators locally like Ring in Mayo or Creed in Cork NW will build up a constituency-wide personal vote over time that has nothing to do with loyalty to a particular party. Big job for newcomer to come in and build up profile in what may be relatively short time as councillor, known only within his/her own LEA.
Generally, for new candidate a prolonged and extensive door to door canvassing campaign is required to get your name "out there". Fairly professional SM campaign also needed these days.

The auction is gathering pace, Last week Peter Burke FG proposed a 750eu tax credit to keep young people here,
John Mcguinness says it should be 5k, SF are calling for an activity card to the value of 130eu per child to go towards paying for club memberships,
Government are to sign off on a scheme which will mean patients can bypass a GP and go direct to a pharmacy to get a prescription for 8 listed
illnesses,

Disgraceful short-termism and the public are all ready to be bought off of course.

Tell us how much this will cost and why you still cannot afford to pay for sports infrastructure and mental health supports for kids etc.

The SF idea of a 130eu kids activity card has a lot of merit and would be very welcome by so many people,
The main thing is to ensure there is no way it would be abused,

It’s a very good idea but they should have stuck with it as just a cost of living measure.
Citing Iceland reducing smoking and drinking amongst teenagers solely down to the card was baloney.
There was a lot more measures involved in Iceland, such as curfews, training for parents, mandatory online reporting of activities.
