I mentioned this before but new builds are zero rated for VAT in the UK. Is it the same here? Something to look at if not.

I don't think so, but they should be.

If you retrofit your home for solar etc you get a grant but also have to pay the vat.

No sense at the highest levels.

Hotels in the cities (esp Dublin) rip everyone off due to high demand and lack of affordable supply.

Everywhere, not just the city.
Had a quick look at prices in tourist areas this weekend which is off season.
Dingle, Killarney, Westport, Sligo etc all starting at nearly 200 euros for a double room and others much higher.

The best cure for high prices is high prices as people vote with their feet and avoid rip-offs.

It works out better to fly abroad out of Cork airport and have a better experience for the same cost.

I was due at a conference next month for 2 nights in Dublin with accommodation coming close to €800 which is just mad.

Fock that.

Centrists are adopting the politics of the slightly right as its what the electorate are voting for.

Namely proper immigration controls and caps. Our own centre right party have done the same as it became apparent that our existing policy was open to abuse and was stretching the system to collapse.

The left are too busy tying themselves up in knots about identity politics to worry about winning elections.
