The comedian toys, teases mocks and plays as he works through his carefully convoluted and playfully abrasive ideas

Following the sell-out Carpet Remnant World, the acclaimed writer and comedian Stewart Lee presents a mixed stew of unrelated ideas at the Cork Opera House in preparation for his 2014 BBC2 TV series Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle. See it live so you can begin the backlash ahead of transmission.

A firm favourite with Irish audiences over the past few years, Stewart Lee returns for a limited number of Irish shows this October, starting in the Cork Opera House on Saturday, 19th of October.

Stewart’s stellar career includes directing the Mighty Boosh’s breakthrough Edinburgh show, Arctic Boosh (1999), multiple touring shows, comedy awards, international festival appearances and TV series including ‘Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle’ and `Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience’.

In 2001 he was invited to help write the libretto of, and direct, the composer Richard Thomas’ work, Jerry Springer The Opera, at Battersea Arts Centre. The show won four Olivier awards after its run at The National Theatre. He is also a regular radio contributor and a columnist with many publications, including The Observer.

Marvellously funny: mordant, thoughtful and crafted

Lee was excellent. But the support was dreadful. Exactly the kind of comedy that you don't expect (or want) to see when you go to a Lee show. Baffling why they would bother with a support act in the first place. Maybe that was down to management, agency?

I saw Elenor Tiernan a few weeks back in vicar st doing a support slot and thought she was excellent tbh. Expected her to be shite when she came out and her first joke was terrible but once she settled down she was brilliant

I wouldn't go that far tbh, once she settled she did ok,

Stewart Lee was very good, but that is to be expected :)

Jesus Christ, it would have been better if there was no support than having Elenanor Tiernan up there. She is absolute dross. One saving grace is that it wasn't Maeve Higgins.

Good show from Stew. Not as good as his "Carpet Remnant World" show in the Opera House last time round. I know it's only a trial run for material for the next series of "Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle" but it did feel a little flat in places. It'll be polished before it hits TV, I'm sure. This should have been reflected in the ticket price at little. But hey, he has to live too.

good crowd?

The attendance was only alright, better than last time. First two rows completely empty. He had to ask folk to move closer. Loads of people still coming in from the bar even after he'd started, making noise while getting to their seats.

What was really head-wrecking (and he mentioned it) was people casually flicking on their phones during his set, texting etc, illuminating the audience.

Stew is playing Dublin and Belfast in May.

No Cork date. This is probably down to the piss poor turn out the last two times he's been here.

Shame really but you can't blame him.

The rest of the tour (inc. Dublin) is nearly sold out.
