Sinn Fein are not a Normal Political Party

4 weeks from an election they are heading for Green Party wipe out territory. You'd presume not long after she will resign. I'd imagine the leadership will move back North nationally. Dáil leadership will move to Doherty who should retain his seat.

Wonder who the official opposition will be.
Has it been announced?

I wonder will the "young" thirty-somethings who cannot get on the housing ladder still vote for SF though ? With all these controversies, maybe their message will be lost. Also, polls don't lie - that is a dramatic fall in poll ratings they have experienced.

All this baloney aside their vote has collapsed as they couldn't do the very simple job of opposition , which is to disagree with government policy.

They rowed in behind the coalition on a range of issues ranging from immigration to the ridiculous March referendum.

For all their talk of 'change' they didn't offer any alternatives.

Some going to imode in the face of one of if not the worst government in modern times.

Mick and his buddies called a recount at the last election because they couldn't stand the fact that the actual labour candidate had outpolled the continuity labour one by around 7 or 8 votes. They were both fucking miles off a seat but well clear of hanging on to their expenses. It did nothing but delay and inconvenience everyone else for a day. Loopers.

I don't think so. But the question is where does that vote go? Labour? No. Social Democrats? Doubt it. Independents? To form a government? Can't see it.

The worry is that get bought in by the IFP, NP, Ireland First crews who are telling them they can't buy a house because of Ukrainians or Muslims.

But realistically if it hasn't happened by Nov 15th then they have to have the bye-elections.
Nope.

"That's when the clock starts ticking on the obligation to hold by-elections to fill the vacated seats within six months.
The latest date the Government could move the writs would be 15 January 2025.

The Electoral Act stipulates that the by-elections in the four constituencies would have to be held "not earlier than the 17th day or later than the 25th day next following the day on which the writ or writs for the election is or are issued".
But there's another rule which the coalition could avail of, weeks after moving the by-election writs.

It's Rule 40 and it states that a general election takes precedence over a by-election.

The rule states: "Where a dissolution of the Dáil takes place after a writ has been issued...the writ shall become and be annulled by the dissolution and no further steps shall be taken in respect of the bye-election and the writ shall be returned to the Clerk of the Dáil."

So, the Government could move the writs for the by-elections, which will allow it to continue up to early February, and then call a general election which would be held between 21 and 28 days after the dissolution of the Dáil.

The by-elections simply disappear."

Anyone any the wiser as to what Stanley is alleged to have done?

No - he has come out fighting this afternoon, saying that it was a stitch up and he'll run in next GE.
Must be something to it - unlike your one in Cork East a few years ago or the TD in Kildare last week, Stanley was a heavy hitter who brought in almost 1.5 quotas last time out. They'd be unlikely to shaft him unless felt there was no choice....or the rumours about favoured candidate with right connections wanting the seat are true!

Without SF offering a coherent, viable alternative, likelihood is that anti FFG votes will go all over the place.
Could have a very low turnout with young voters especially thinking "a plague on all their houses".
