Saipan 10 Warmup.

Of course you’re right regarding preparation, professionalism etc. And the Irish set up from memory was always based around Big Jacks management style where we seemed to thrive on chaos and winging it( the perception at least).

People say we should/could have achieved more with a professional approach. Who knows? We could have been the most hydrated well rested team out there, but our style of play hampered progress just as much, more so at the end of the Charlton era. I think Mick tried to carry on a relaxed formula that worked in his era, but the game and players were changing.

England who were similar in abilities tried to enforce rigid regimes on their squads, seemed to have mixed results. Robbed in ‘86, flopped in ‘88, unlucky in 90.

And for all his puritan preaching, pre-conversion Keane partied as hard as the next man, still performed and was part of winning teams. He idolises Robson and McGrath who’s behaviour then, would these days see them struggle to make an LOI set up such is the demand for robotic adherence to code.

A wise Sergeant once said, if you’re going to hoot with the owls at night, make sure you can soar with the eagles in the morning. Right now we can’t do either. As for Keane and important penos,
