Rage against the Machine for Christmas No 1

It's not about Sony getting money, it's about Cowell specifically, and his stranglehold over the charts. It's boring.

You know what else is boring? A 17 year old song that is perceived to be subversive by an established, wealthy rock band, that doesn't seem very non-conformist to me. Why didn't they pick a song from an artist that hasn't sold millions of records and who isn't signed to a multinational conglomerate? That at least would have made it a bit interesting.

Because that would be a slightly harder sell?

''Hey guys! Get your mates to buy my brother Dan Destruction's new Psytrance tune for Christmas! We need about 415,000 sales!''.

What they are doing here is picking a fairly well known protest song. It's not even the choice of fucking song, it's the gesture. I know some will dismiss it as a load of student scum jumping on just a different bandwagon but that's such a negative, cop out way to look at things. It would be funny if the tune got somewhere in the charts. I don't think most doing it expect it to get to number 1. And I think most tongues are firmly in cheek.

X factor has ruined the traditional number one slot. Remember the buzz of watching top of thepops on Christmas Day. Happy days when we had no way of finding out unless we watched topo of the pops!!!! I would love to see X fator knocked of its perch. For the sake of proper artists. But Rage against the machine? What dope thought that up. The song should be one that appeals to a broader audience. Fairytale of New York is the leat cheesiest and most popular of all Christmas songs. More people would have taken to a campaign like that.

Instead of blaming the tv show we should be blaming the idiots that buy the "music" it spawns or the "DJs" that give it air play.

Anyway it's the charts, who cares? They're always shit, Christmas is no different.
