Pubs reopening June 29th

Night five a row in for me tonight, and I've no interest in changing that any time soon. Even with the Gables session on a Thursday, usually the highlight of my week, I'm not tempted.

I estimate I've saved around €300 since Sunday by not going to pubs. I don't feel 100% better for it but I am getting there. I was able to jump out of bed at 5am this morning, go to Dublin and do some actual work, rather than going up just to sit around like a zombie all day waiting for 4pm to come.

I havent stayed off drink completely, I had a few bottles of Dungarvan beer that I got in Bradley's, but its nice to pay €20 for 5 good quality beers that I can drink at home listening to whatever I want, watching whatever I want, eating whatever I want, and using my own clean bathroom, that I don't have to share with drunken yobs who say things like "how's your night going bud".

I honestly can't see me going back to the pubs. Obviously if I'm away or if there's a big match or something on I'd head out for a few, but the novelty has worn off and I don't miss them or their €6 pints one bit. The days of me going out on a Monday night for pints just out of routine are definitely finished. Herself mooted the idea of going out for a few tomorrow but I said no. Instead I've booked a day trip to Waterford on Saturday, which I'll actually get out of bed and do because unlike last Saturday when I got out of bed at 4pm, I won't be hanging out of my arse.

It's called getting old

There's that, but also the offering from pubs has changed.

Like I'm not single so I'm not going to pubs to meet women. I can watch any match I want at home so don't need to go to a pub just because it has Sky. Some will say what about the atmosphere. What atmosphere? Drunk men shouting at a TV? Class biy.

The state of pub toilets in Cork is absolutely appalling if there was any sort of minimum standard then 99% would fall below it.

Back when I started out you'd go to a pub because a certain barman was on. Chris in the Sin E, Mick in Fredz. Those lads are gone now and have been replaced by people who don't want you there and couldn't give a fuck who you are as long as you take your pint and go away from them.

I see very little appeal in pubs now. And that's before we even go anywhere near the state of the prices.
