Pubs reopening June 29th

Well at least you had some good times, that's what I tell myself often. Like I'm a complete loser, I can't eat certain things and now I don't even drink alcohol 🤣 I just go out and drink coffee.

Hey that's not all you do.

You also post on the PROC, which is not something that everyone in Cork can say.

Generally because they're either banned or else can't register an account

I do hold down a job as well strangely enough. You might be nearing 40 where you could be having a mid life crisis. I started smoking at 40. Bad move, youllbe alright though cos you're stable enough

Night five a row in for me tonight, and I've no interest in changing that any time soon. Even with the Gables session on a Thursday, usually the highlight of my week, I'm not tempted.

I estimate I've saved around €300 since Sunday by not going to pubs. I don't feel 100% better for it but I am getting there. I was able to jump out of bed at 5am this morning, go to Dublin and do some actual work, rather than going up just to sit around like a zombie all day waiting for 4pm to come.

I havent stayed off drink completely, I had a few bottles of Dungarvan beer that I got in Bradley's, but its nice to pay €20 for 5 good quality beers that I can drink at home listening to whatever I want, watching whatever I want, eating whatever I want, and using my own clean bathroom, that I don't have to share with drunken yobs who say things like "how's your night going bud".

I honestly can't see me going back to the pubs. Obviously if I'm away or if there's a big match or something on I'd head out for a few, but the novelty has worn off and I don't miss them or their €6 pints one bit. The days of me going out on a Monday night for pints just out of routine are definitely finished. Herself mooted the idea of going out for a few tomorrow but I said no. Instead I've booked a day trip to Waterford on Saturday, which I'll actually get out of bed and do because unlike last Saturday when I got out of bed at 4pm, I won't be hanging out of my arse.
Holy fock EnnisY.. €300 in 5 nights is 10 pints a night, every night!
I love a pint as much as the next man but thats madness, glad to hear you're getting handle on it.. keep it going, sounds like the sleep is sorting itself a bit as well

Tell your ol doll to quit with the suggestions to hit the pub too.. surely thats the last thing you need!

Don't mean to say anything that upsets you HonkY but leave him be.

I recognize exactly the way he is thinking and condemnation of what he is/was doing won't help.

It didn't for me anyway, I just worked it all out by myself.

No offence to anyone else meant.

She only suggested that because it's the default of what we do on a Friday night. We don't know any better. What we're going to this week though is get a proper nice take away, a few cans, and watch a film. She's got her hen party on Saturday (it's an all day non alcohol thing), and I'm on the 8am train to Waterford. So the early night will do us well.

And yeah 10 pints a night sounds right. Minimum. My problem is that I can put away the pints, and I can afford them. I'd easily head to the pub now and put away 12 pints before last call in 4 hours time.

Fuck knows what long term damage I've done, but it's my fault and my problem. All I can do is try and turn things around. Having a wedding coming up is a good incentive to get my shit in order.

There's that, but also the offering from pubs has changed.

Like I'm not single so I'm not going to pubs to meet women. I can watch any match I want at home so don't need to go to a pub just because it has Sky. Some will say what about the atmosphere. What atmosphere? Drunk men shouting at a TV? Class biy.

The state of pub toilets in Cork is absolutely appalling if there was any sort of minimum standard then 99% would fall below it.

Back when I started out you'd go to a pub because a certain barman was on. Chris in the Sin E, Mick in Fredz. Those lads are gone now and have been replaced by people who don't want you there and couldn't give a fuck who you are as long as you take your pint and go away from them.

I see very little appeal in pubs now. And that's before we even go anywhere near the state of the prices.
Come on now MOE don’t be hostile to your self and criticising hard working Cork people’s businesses at the same time .
Most of us have been through it ,it’s a hard station as it dawns that you are too old for the iron maiden shirt and are chasing ghosts any yet 15 odd years out from qualifying for the pensioners pint ,
Been through it kid some stay the course others become wine and cheese heads ,
You’ll be ok my friend .

I wouldn’t worry about the damage EnnisY, what’s done is done and the body is an incredible healer.

I could put 10 away myself on a session with the buddies but they are few and far between these days, I couldn’t be facing a day when I had to actually do anything after a session like that though

Anyway, the wedding sounds like a good target, best of luck (y)
