Pubs reopening June 29th

Had a late night of it tonight doing some ‘quality control’ in a few of the big names around town. The Beamish and Guinness performed well with the Murphy’s slightly below par. It must be said it was a mighty good night of pinting nonetheless and I will be making these quality control nights more of a regular occurrence going forward.

Coughlans is one pub I really don't like. It seems to be very cliquey and trendy, I have never felt welcome there.

Ive heard of a few older regulars who say they've been pushed out in favour of a younger crowd.

In fact there's a lot of movement on Douglas Street. Coughlans, The Gables, and the Hyde Out (formerly Nanas) have lost a lot of core regulars to Paddy the Farmers. That pub is absolutely booming at the moment, the guy running it previously ran Nanas and he knows exactly what people in the area want.

Between me and you, there'll be one less pub in the area in the next few months.
It was a lovely pub circa 15 years ago. A place you could go for a pint on your own and have decent chat with people at the counter or if you were with your other half a nice unwind in front of the fire. It was a bit like The Gables nice friendly staff and reasonably priced.

Great to see a new business open in the heart of Cork's thriving pub and late night quarter.

No VAT reduction? No problem for these guys.

Entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Cork.

They're right next to a few of Bennys finest heritage pubs, so they'll be able to observe how the master does it and learn from there.

Is Tribes still open?

Fair play to them having a punt at a new business venture, really hope it works out for them.

Disappointed that they don’t serve porter but I wish them the best of luck regardless.

Is it a good Bar Ennisy? I must check it out some night

It's a nice bar but it has so much undelivered potential. He's a lovely guy but he's trying to manage it while juggling every other element of owning a pub, and he finds it very hard to hold onto decent staff for some reason. He'd be doing 70 hours a week behind the bar in there himself, on top of being in the next morning for kegs, doing the wages, roster etc.

For context, two of his best staff both left for The Old Bear, and another of his best is leaving soon on another controversial transfer to a nearby rival.

If he could find a good bar manager, the place would make an absolute killing.

He'll do very well over Christmas in terms of parties and the likes, but if you don't have the staff then what good is having people in if you can't serve them. His wife has had to jump in a few nights recently what with all the staff moving around.

His best full time girl moved to Valencia for a job, you can't begrudge her that.

Let's just say that as someone who has managed bars and is a bit of a geek when it comes to watching how bars work, I reckon I'd transform that place if given the opportunity. My bar days are long gone though.
