Based on factors other than hurling, as i stated previously, and i understand that.
But based on hurling alone, he was nowhere near the best in the country this year. Not even top 10.
As I said you are entitled to disagree, you are wrong and compounding it now by saying he isn’t even top ten. That is complete nonsense.

I thought it was one of the easiest hurler of the year decisions. As mentioned above it was his fellow players picked it so hard to disagree.
I thought O'Donnell was unbelievable all year, he made things happen when Clare were struggling in certain games and needed someone to stand up and show leadership to get them over the line.

Don't disagree with a lot of the points being made here. Hes a good player. But the stuff being mentioned like dropping deep and bringing others into the game, other players do this also, and contribute more. Hoggy the best example i can think of.
How much you score should weigh about 90% of the basis for assessing a full-forwards performance. Thats primarily why they are named on the team.
SOD also likes to dive.
Not the best hurler in the country this year.
But we'll agree to disagree on this one.

2-q

KIlkenny was 1 game.
Hoggy carried us over the line in 2 huge games. Against limerick, to keep us in Munster.
Against Clare in the final, he carried us to force extra time and when we looked beaten in extra time.

He scored 5-74.
O'donnell, 2-14. In an 8 game championship, for a full-forward thats a pitiful return.
Yes he won frees and setup scores. So did Hoggie, yet still contributed 5 times more scores directly.
O'donnell cant even hit a free.
(And im just using Hoggie as an example, i actually thing theres a lot of players were far better than O'donnell this Year, 3 or 4 alone in the Clare team).
Theres no way he was the best hurler this year.
But i get this award is about more than that. Past reputation, profile, popularity, media presence, character, ambassador for the game. And for those reasons i understand why he was given it.
But, he was simply not the best hurler this year. Nowhere near it, in fact.
Ah stop ffs

And as for Shane O’Donnell, he was by far the best hurler this year, a superb ball winner and brilliant at bringing others into the play. If you can’t acknowledge his brilliance then i wonder how much you really know about the game
