I think a few here are too concerned about the scoring return. That's the whole point of what made O'Donnell extra special during the championship, he didn't need to just score to win it. He has so much more to his game, he can stay inside and score, he can go to half forward and win ball, get frees, bring others into the game. He has so many elements to his game.
I'll say it again, he was picked by the players. Are ye saying all those lads don't know what they're talking about or who they felt was the best they played with and against, they were there next to him on the field and a lot more qualified to call it than any of us here.

Yip it's a hurler of the year award, not a top scorer from play, midfield etc.

Darragh Fitz did all these things aswell. And he tackles, defends, tracks back aswell as making defence splitting runs and assists.
AND chipped in 0-24 from midfield, from play.
AND, doesn't dive.
I actually place less weight on the fact its players, as opposed to media or some othet group that vote. The fact its playets voting and a lot of them would know him personally, bias's their judgement a lot more towards his personality/character, which i think is the reason he got the award this year.
