Pre Celtic Tiger Ireland

As with anything it is relative to what we were used to.

Emigration hit record levels in mid to late 80s.
Our national debt doubled to 27 billion from 82-87.
Shell suits.
Industrial strikes every other day, buses, teachers...........

Cork won the centenary AI in Thurles.
Roches Stores was Roches Stores.
Brown Thomas was Cash's.
Mars bars for 30p.
Supercans for 50p.

Is greed maybe destroying society?

Not to call anyone out here, but I will, so fuck it, but we have a poster called GreedIsGood and people seem to think he's a gobshite. If that isn't proof then I don't know what you want.

It's not greed per se. As I said above it is what we are used to in relative terms.

Tommy Tiernan did a good skit on it............

Irish people going on 2 foreign holidays.
Irish people going skiing.
2 cars.
Tiger meant we had a flourishing software sector. Jobs all over the gaff.
Benchmarking meant public sector workers were relatively quiet.
Immigrants started to arrive and do jobs Irish people felt were beneath them.
Infrastructure projects like the M7 / M8.

Problem with it is not so much greed as kids....................

Kids who grew up in 70s and 80s knew money was tight and to have meas and see the value in things.
Kids who grew up in the 90s and 00s, presume there will always be money there, expect to be able to ahve what they want when they want it - have no real concept of signing on, not having a job to do if they are willing etc..................there is a definite air of entitlement and almost arrogance there as opposed to greed.
