Plumbing issue

Hi Lads.

Having a plumbing issue. Water tank in the attic is continuously filling. We no longer have hot water. Before this happen the water would get so hot you couldn't touch it. The water is heated off of the gas central heating.

Anyone have any ideas what is wrong?

Sounds like you have a leak from the hot water tank, possibly a hot water tap being left on or leaking.

This would cause the hot tank to have to continuously fill from the attic tank (cold water cooling the heated water) and the attic tank to continuously fill.

Have you checked your stopcock?

If this issue was with his stopcock the water would still heat, water would be flowing out of the attic overflow (very visible from outside), and his significant other would be complaining and shouting "stopcock...stopcock" continuously.....

You just need to find what is drawing off the hot water. If it isnt a tap check your washing machine... most only take cold water but some do take hot.

A good tip is to turn off as many things in the house as possible and listen. Flowing water creates noise, if the house is quiet enough you might hear the low hiss sound and find it that way.

As Kh says, it could be just a hot tap not shut off properly. Check them all before calling a plumber.
