Manchester are lowest seeded English team in cl next season

I think it runs on past performances over the last 5 seasons so I'd even expect United's seeding to fall lower in the next few years if they dont win the thing.

last 5 seasons

06/07 - semi finals
05/06 - group stages
04/05 - last 16
03/04 - last 16
02/03 - last 8

Quarters at least required next season to keep current co-efficient if my understanding is correct.

united's co-efficient is reflective of our performance in Europe over the last 5 seasons, which has been poor for the main part

Yes, and the 5 years are weighted towards the present. Therefore, if we get to the last 8 next season, our record will read the same, except in terms of order:

07/08 - last 8
06/07 - semi finals
05/06 - group stages
04/05 - last 16
03/04 - last 16

Instead of :

06/07 - semi finals
05/06 - group stages
04/05 - last 16
03/04 - last 16
02/03 - last 8

The last 8 in the first example would be weighted higher than the last 8 in the second. The poor performances from 03/04 - 05/06 would be lower on the last, hence our coefficient would be improved.
