Interesting article about concussion in rugby

This to me is the critical section:

Basically, tackling a much smaller, much lighter player who was already crouched and bent over, prone.

It tallies up with the photos, which look weird when you look at them first. It looks to me like a really shit, clumsy tackle.

I've done damage to other players in the past through tackles, knocked out a few teeth, broken a couple of arms and probably other damage but not with malice, usually just with force and occasionally poor technique. Could definitely see myself having done this tackle by mistake.

It might come down to what this "belly flop" motion looks like on the video.

If it's clear that the neck/spine were at risk and she knowingly threw the full force of her body down in that area then there could well be scope for serious damages.

It does look a bit over exuberant rather than malicious.
The angry player probably wouldn't have even considered that as a hit in retribution that she was looking for.

Rugby was a contact sport, but is now a collision sport.

There's something to be said for how the kiwis divide by weight instead of age. They even have a lighter weight division for adults rugby.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-64747630 Same as above without a twitter link. Seems to be the case the player that made the "tackle" had already broken a players wrist and punched another in the head in the same game. It was a developmental league game too.
We all know the type. Only plays J3 rugby cos everyone else their size is slow so can't hurt them and anyone fast is half their size.

Wouldn't and couldn't last a wet week with people their own size that they can't bully (ie, J2 and up).

It makes their season if they somehow end up through on a 60kg full back who has no choice but to initiate contact.
