Insurance question

I am part of a residents group in the process of getting a contractor to cut green areas in our estate
One neighbour has told us we will need public liability insurance and also employers insurance, I have left a message for the contractor to clarify
Would i be right in thinking his policy would cover this?

If the contractor is reputable, then they should have their own insurance and should gladly give you a copy of same.

If it was a situation that you were employing a gangster then I can see where that other neighbour is coming from

The contractor will have public liability insurance.

Its not mandatory, but absolute insanity to not have it so its pretty much a given they will.

Ask them to confirm before agreeing to the job.

That's one for Mattie I think but to be fair, how many of us who get jobs done in our houses regard ourselves as employers?

No. You're customers contracting a third party to carry out a service.

Public liability and employee insurance go pretty much hand in hand so they wont have one without the other.
