Immigration Thread

There are not enough construction apprentices coming through.
A lot of Irish mummies and daddies are pushing away their kids from future lucrative careers as tradespeople.
I’m sure some of our new arrivals could make excellent tradesmen if given an incentive to train and gain employment.
Some of them are obvious scammers and just claim benefits though.
Too much importance is put on the leaving cert and trying to achieve high points. Any of the larger firms, be it construction, engineering or pharma have plenty of opportunities for apprenticeships, and would offer further training and potential down the line for career development.

With regards road safety, the state of the roads isn't helping either. Yes, people being stupid causes accidents, but in recent years the roads have got progressively worse, bar the main roads. Retarring roads without filling the potholes and drains first is a waste of time and money, yet that is all the do in the country roads near me.
