Immigration Thread

If it's EU policy that is exactly what will happen just like Australia and Canada.

A detention centre is not a 'concentration camp'.

It's preferable to the current demented practice of the state contracting a third of beds outside the Capital.

Genuine cases won't be there long but at least it's safer and better than the war thorn country they came from and things would be looking up for them
Women and children should not be locked up against their will for doing nothing wrong. This is not the United States.

Also, people have spent years in direct provision so that contradicts your argument that genuine cases won’t be there long.

No instead they should be given a tent and sleeping bag?
We can't cope with the numbers therefore the choices are this or out on the street to fend for themselves.
The current system is completely wrecked and not working. We can't cope with the numbers and because Ireland is seen as a soft touch the numbers are actually going up.

We can’t cope because as a country our infrastructure is in a disgraceful state. We can’t cope because we process applications too slowly. We’re can’t cope because there are various humanitarian crises ongoing around Europe and near European borders. We have an open border with another state. The reasons we can’t cope are multifaceted.

We’re not the only ones who are experiencing a refugee crisis either. We won’t solve it on our own. Detention centres won’t discourage anyone, it doesn’t stop Mexicans trying to enter the United States that’s for sure.

Which is why we need a pause.
