Environment Minister Eamon Ryan has consistently touted EVs as a major solution to Ireland's emissions reduction plan. However, the high cost of second-hand cars is proving an obstacle to mass adaption, one of the country's biggest experts in the field has warned.

Editor of IrishEVs.com, Tom Spencer, has repeatedly called for the Government to remove Vat and vehicle registration tax (VRT) from second-hand EV imports from the UK. Only measures such as these will ensure there are enough affordable EVs to meet the already significant demand, he said.

Its all stick and no carrot with this minister.

I drove to Dublin during the week. 3 charging points for standard EVs in the service station , only 2 quick charging.

A pal of mine drives an EV in Galway, they brought their ICE 2nd car when they visited us in Cork last summer as he said there arn't enough charging points to do the journey without a lot of stress.

They've set targets for EV takeup with no incentives to buy them and with hopeless support infrastructure.

No sooner had I stepped off the park and ride when I had to dodge a cyclist on a footpath. They are a law unto themselves.
yes indeed. i encountered a few on the footpath today while walking to work..i dont understand it...as a cyclist myself i find it incredible for grown men to be on a foothpath... its so bloody awkward anyway and its slow. i was also wondering where are all the bike to work cyclists.? those many thousands who availed of the scheme with no intention whatsover of ever cycling to work as the scheme intends..

Very valid point. Being completely abused.

Witnessed another cyclist cycling in to the city centre between Tivoli and Horgan’s quay on the footpath despite a perfectly wide and empty cycle lane on the other side of the road.
