Corn Ui Mhuiri

Watched the Rochestown and Patrician Academy quarter final games on clubber. Both set ups shambolic as Cork football got another pasting.
Rochestown was game over early as they were totally outclassed.
Patrician Academy lacking football basics, cleaned out on kickouts and breaking ball and looked way too cautious an outfit in possession. That Mallow have a Cork U20 S&C coach and a selector in charge of em just adds to the dismay as to what’s happening in Cork football.

You’re not wrong, Would have expected more from Mallow against Kenmare.

Hammies produced a fine performance in Banteer today I’m told and outclassed Dingle. So that’s a bit of a silver lining.

Overall though it’s true, most Cork schools are well behind tactically and in terms of preparation and setup at this level.

For Cork football you have the problem of the likes of Christians (where football is banned despite wishes of players) and Pres (who allow football to be played at a low level) which is one thing. Chriost Rí having fallen off is another thing.
But that still leaves a lot of big schools with loads of talented footballers to work with. Hurling and other sports takes up certain energy but beyond that is there really many schools that put in a huge effort?
One of the Cork schools in quarter final has 2 named on management. Do they seriously think they are going to compete with 2 guys running things? Kerry schools and the strong Ulster schools, Leinster schools use coaches and expertise in their county and local area very well.
Doesn’t seem to happen with many of the Cork schools who could be doing better.

So much depends on the school managment ie principal/teachers driving the thing. Even one good leader can inspire others to get involved. In Cork I feel Rochestown and Col.Colm should be doing better as they surely have the numbers. CCR has a different demographic nowadays. Even the Kerry schools seem to ebb and flow. PSCD as not doing great recenlty after a string of successes not so long ago. Sem is the only school with a proper setup enabling them to contend every year.

Football isn’t banned in CBC, just no interest.
