Opinions vary here but it appears you didn't see Cork v Tipp. O'Connell was excellent at mid-field in the early stages and was the main man in Cork being well on top of Tipp only for squandered chances but he was put back wing-back when there was a blood sub and when Eoin Downey struggled. The management have made him the fall guy and why would one assign any rookie to mark Tony Kelly in a position he has only played in under this management? A natural defender like Ger Millerick is required for Kelly, Tommy is a half-forward/mid-fielder. Square plugs don't fit in round holes. His form all year has been better than Shane and Darragh and they both start tomorrow.
