Cork Hurlers - Part 2

They were good on Sat in beating a pretty poor looking Galway side. Their forwards are strong and direct. They'll walk all over you if you aren't 100% on your game.

I don't think anyone is ignoring them because Cork have their their hands full just qualifying out of Munster. I think lads will worry about them if we can qualify for the AI series.

I'll be honest Tipp looked ravenous yesterday. I'm hoping it took a lot out of them. I said to friends a few weeks ago I'd take 3rd place there and then. I'd still take it tbh.
Amen Omar, it’s going to be squeaky bum time on May 25

Few thoughts on yesterday’s events.

The game was thrown away on the line. Downey was left on hobbling around trying to walk off his injury while we conceded the two goals early in the second half well before the sending off. For all the strength and depth we’re supposed to have surely Pat should be able to trust a sub to come in and do a job. Instead of hoping someone can shake off an injury. Clare were always gunna come in hot and heavy in the second half it was stupid to give them an advantage leaving a potentially injured defender on the pitch. If Pat Ryan has one weakness, it’s that he’s a bit too slow to make changes mid game. The half time break was perfect to make that change.

The Shane Kingston sub also baffling. As other posters pointed out, Tommy O Connell was needed there. We needed someone to get in their faces and win some scrappy ball, Kingston ain’t that guy.

The problems with Duggan only started when he start getting quality, almost perfect ball. This was obviously due to the sending off as they had the spare man to deliver said ball. I wouldn’t be too harsh on Downey there cuz Duggan will do that to most when given that type of ball. But again, a change was needed, his head was gone which was summed up when he made a silly handling error and gifted them a free.

Whatever about the off the ball stuff. The diving, cheating and play acting needs to be called out. Imagine a proper in depth analysis on the Sunday Game, naming and shaming lads. Can’t see it happening though with Dalo and the likes involved. We’re not the only ones to take issue with it either. I remember Limerick supporters complaining about Clare doing the same shit as far back as the 2022 Munster final. Connolly should have had a cooler head with Hogan and was very lucky but part of me was delighted he finally got a proper belt with all the flopping about he does.

I think we can be positive enough overall despite some hysterics here. Before the sending off we had weathered the storm and were getting to grips with the game again. Think we would have probably won by 5 or 6 points in the end. Clare were always gunna have a big second half.

Sorry if others have posted as follows already, but on reflection I’m not sure most of us appreciate how lucky we were ultimately to get a point. We go a point down with time already a minute up. We have no momentum at all having conceded the last 1-6. We have a man less. We have a puck out (if the ref lets us take it in the first place). We keep losing our puck outs. We are allowed take this one thankfully. But we lose it. Clare have the ball with time well up.

Haunted to get a point from there in truth (and yes I know we lost a 12 point lead…)

Until you deal with the quality of the supply coming in from outside there isn’t much any fullback can do..
That's certainly true if the ball in is low and played into space for the forward to run into. Not sure it holds when the ball in is high and dropping to the edge of the square - in that case you need a defender strong enough to go hip to hip with the target man and break it away, or let it run though to the keeper, or at the v least prevent the forwards from gathering cleanly. Point being that the high dropping ball, unlike one played into space, is more 50-50, and what player is there defending it matters more.

Nailed it Killy, bit nuanced for some of the “experts” on here though 🤣

24 hours later, on reflection you'd take the draw. A defeat would have been a disaster. Sending off was a killer. Naive from Barrett you knew the Clare lad was going to hit the deck plus twas right infront of Clare bench. Don't give the ref the slightest opportunity.

Clare are full of shithousery, poking niggling and diving. But we have to be smarter and play the ref.

Yesterday will kill the hype no bad thing.

Btw Pat Ryan made a shocking call not to take Robert Downey off at ht. He couldn't move coming out onto the pitch after ht. The two goals went in before he was hauled off. He was in a good covering position for both goals and wasn't able to get there as he couldn't!!

Duggan was always going to win ball. Play your CB deeper, get bodies around him and prevent goals. That was the only way Clare were getting back into it. Poor game management.

Tipp is huge. Win it and we are nicely set up.

Let's not panic .....yet !!
