Cork Hurlers - Part 2

I’d have normally discussed other hurling on the the hurling thread. But if people are discussing next years championship I think it’s going to be an absolutely fascinating championship next year. Clare are worthy winners there will be a big relief to get over the line at least once but they’ll be acutely aware of how poorly they defended their last title in 2014. Loads of talent coming through under age but a good chunk of the real stars In conlon Kelly mcinerney and SOD showing wear and tear. Cork will find winning in Ennis a real challenge. I’m from limerick originally but live down here. I think Limerick have some major challenges going into next year. The composition of the half back line and midfield were only challenged v cork last year. In every other match we either won that 5 positions comfortably or broke even. Whatever about in puc which was a game of two halves with the brain dead penalty deciding it. …. Cork cleaned us at numbers 5-9 in croke park. Having dara Donovan back will be important. Could we get a midfielder with genuine pace out of adam English? Can limerick get away with hannon and Byrnes having an off day. I think both still have an awful lot to offer. I don’t think Hayes has the tactical skills to play 6 and it stops his runs forward. Cathal o Neill or Barry Nash have the hurling. Will Donoghue would be a good stopper but doesn’t have the stick work. Lynch has undoubtedly lost mobility. Shane o brien and The biggest question will be the freshness and the hunger. There’s no doubt the last 5 years have been exhausting mentally. Might be no harm to have a fresh start this season Cork made absolutely massive progress last season. Pat Ryan in one season has sorted the conundrums of 3/6/8/11 and 14. There is a Clear team to build on. History has been unkind on losing finalists but I’d say cork will be very close again next season. Whether this cork team are able to win ugly I’m not sure. That’s a hard lesson to learn. Clare struggled for multiple games last year and Limerick have made a habit of playing our best hurling in the final for the past 3 years. There’s no doubt cork will eventually get over the line at some point with most of this team but next season won’t be easy. Kilkenny will be in the mix simply because Leinster is so average. Fr Trendy will surely get a kick out of Galway. Waterford will surely get a kick out of being done with Davy.

For fun can you explain the "much more to this that's meets the eye" bit.
Maybe you didn't see the hardest won munster championship in years which limerick won .
Also limerick beaten by cork twice in two cracking games but also beat the all ireland winners twice so there were plenty top class games to judge performances.
Kk if any county could feel aggrieved as they won leinster but the standard of games there this year didn't help them
The All-Star selection is a long time renowned for its nominations and selections from the AI series and not from provincial championships, I don't approve but this has been the reality. However this year they give 4 All Stars to the Munster Champions, however unlike you I don't think these awards are based on the hardest won Munster Championship in years. Everyone is referring to the difference in quality to the Leinster Championship, KK win 5 in a row and don't get an All-Star but from the same championship Antrim had 2 players nominated for the first time in 33 years.

I still don't understand the bit

So you don't think limericks awards were based on the Munster championship displays ,so "what's the much more to it than meets the eye bit"? In your opinion

Possibly the only time Limerick were impressive in Munster was in the Munster final.
Clare should have beaten them in the first round, Cork did beat them, they struggled for quite some time against Waterford apart from the last ten minutes, I was afraid for a long time the games would end in a draw. They were good against a very poor Tipp side.

I think the awards were for what was done in the past rather than in the year if I am honest and I don't think that is how it is supposed to work.

If it were based on Munster only then Cork would have very few awards indeed.

Based on the assessment you believe of it being the 'hardest Munster Championship in years' I do not believe this was the reason for their awards. Secondly I stated in an earlier post I mentioned it before when I referred to the G.A.A. influence and the JP factor in the awards selection, simply JP looks after the G.A.A. and in turn the G.A.A. look after Limerick. You generally addressed this in a post which I understood you to be in disagreement of what I stated. Anyone thinking the journalists are not influenced by GAA hierarchy are in denial or extremely naieve.

Tks for reply ,was wondering it was the JP trope ok . Anyway for reference Jp has been sponsoring limerick in both codes now for a long time, also locally in club scene. If the gaa was looking after him surely they would have thrown us a few football all stars too . No doubt journos are influenced but they I hope have their own minds too.in my own opinion as I already said I thought quaid and hayes were nailed on to win and the other two were in contention, hegarthy was the big surprise I guess to most in limerick as many would have put aaron gillane ahead of him in performance this year.
