You are correct. Prob did some other good footballer out of a scholarship. This needs to be addressed. The 42 understands…another kick in the …for Cork football if true..football scholarship and inter county hurling.??.does anyone of consequence speak up about this ..Cleary?..ex players?..The taliban win again
Not necessary, what if they win the Siggy over the duration of his scholarship and he plays a big part in that? There is a good chance the offering of it to him was to get him to play football with the college not hurling. I think people are under the misconception that UCC care about Cork GAA, they don't give two fucks about it. All they care about is winning the Fitz or Siggy. If he wanted to play hurling for the Barrs next year, and could apply for either a hurling or a football scholarship from UCC, then the football one would have been the one to apply for, not a hurling one.
So it's natural to presume that the main reason he has a football scholarship is that it is NOT his number 1 sport, and his priorities are such that he is not currently interested in persuing his scholarship-sport at elite level.
Again, the man is fully entitled to pick whatever sport he's most into, and also to change his mind.
Whoever at UCC has the awarding of the scholarships from amongst the applications must be pretty embarrassed bumping into an unsuccessful applicant for a football scholarship.
I don't expect UCC to care for or favor Cork GAA in the slightest. It would presumably be unfair of them to favor Cork GAA in respect of allocation of sports scholarships - what with there being lots of other counties and lots of other sports which students engage in at elite level. Not necessary, what if they win the Siggy over the duration of his scholarship and he plays a big part in that? You are missing my point, UCC offered Hayes the scholarship to play football at elite level, theirs. Is there some unwritten rule that you must play IC football or hurling to get a scholarship there? They view Hayes as one the best additions for their football program, the fact he isn't playing football with Cork is irrelevant to them and they might actually view it as a bonus.I don't expect UCC to care for or favor Cork GAA in the slightest. I expect that UCC care for the reputation of their sports scholarship program. Unsuccessful applicants from many counties for football sports scholarships might well today hold the program in lower regard.
I didn't miss the point you had had made. Indeed I consciously avoided either agreeing or disagreeing with it because I don't know the facts to agree or disagree with it.You are missing my point, UCC offered Hayes the scholarship to play football at elite level, theirs. I made different points, one of which you now express disagreement with. I don't have the facts, and you do, so I accept your insight about that, albeit I'm surprised.
