Cork city has gone to the dogs.

I had the misfortune to have to drive into town today, a miserable experience, spent so long stuck in traffic, especially around the quays. We really need to discourage people from driving into the city centre and parking wherever they want, there was a Ford Ranger parked on the footpath meters away from the Opera House ffs, in any modern well policed city that flute would have been towed away or at least clamped but not here.

No guards to be seen anywhere on patrol although the I saw the Armed Response Unit jeep alright.

The Victorian Quarter is a sh*tshow because of traffic aswell, needless to say.
The City Council in their wisdom decided to absolutely fuck up the traffic flow in the City Centre.
One can no longer turn right from Merchants Quay onto Patrick's Bridge and the same by the Opera House.
They made this change soon after Covid when traffic levels were lower than normal.
Now the implications of it are blatantly obvious.

I was in Douglas Village SC earlier and my word it was absolutely fantastic. The place was buzzing, everywhere doing well and lovely decorations.

Between Tesco, Marks, Born, TK Maxx etc and all the food offerings, why would anyone ever go into the city on a Saturday afternoon, expecially one as rainy as this? Not to mention the free covered parking.

Plenty of security around too even though you wouldn't even notice them. Not a junkie or drunk in sight, which is more than can be said for Pana or Olly Polly.

The city centre has absolutely zero chance when we have brilliant shopping centres like in Douglas.

I'm sorry to admit it, but I hate what Cork City Centre has become, and I just can't see how it's going to ever improve.

I'd give the same compliments to Mahon Point and Blackpool, both of which are excellent SCs too IMO.

You also have the added bonus of being only a stones throw from the South County bar & restaurant.

I hear they do great food in that place.

Mahon and Blackpool are full of lads living in social welfare gaffs and fat wans pushing prams

We need more bike lanes.
Honestly though a park n’ride covering northside and one from little island side would do wonders I think.
Yup. Simple enough to implement with a spider web effect around the city centre-(Eastern traffic has a rail network)Glanmire/Dunkettle, Blarney/Commons Rd., Ballincollig/Straight Rd, Bandon Rd/Bishopstown finishing up at Blackash. For this to work a operational system of bus lanes needs to enforced with Stasi like zeal(not like the limp wristed approach to the Pana Ban) and the possible introduction of tolls to enter the City at certain times.

I can confirm that this is true. I had lunch there today while watching probably the most boring Ireland match I've ever seen.

The experience was improved somewhat due to the volume of absolutely SAVAGE middle class hot wans in there. I'd say there isn't a Sinn Fein vote in that pub. Sure wasn't Simon Harris only in there around 2 weeks ago. I'd say there was some amount of lovely FG tail in there that night.

Pint was actually alright today. Not great, but marginally better than usual.

I'd a lamb pie. 8.6/10.

That is true of both, but I feel that Blackpool SC gets a lot of the north Cork crowd living in places like Blarney and Mallow, many of whom have jobs and a decent bit of coin.

So it kind of cancels out the local Blackpool people who just hang around the shopping centre in their pyjamas.

Mahon Point has to be the worst planned shopping centre in Ireland. I can't think of another SC which is as much of a fucking pain to get in and out of.

In my experience it has never been great for women with the exception of some of the staff.

It’s not a SF strong hold.

Glad to hear the pint has improved, I’d Murphy’s in there 2 weeks ago and it was decent but I usually go on the lager in there.

For grub though you can’t go wrong

On the contrary I'd be a big fan of the women in there, but I tend to like dirty stuck up toffee nosed middle aged Douglas ones who wouldn't piss on me if I was on fire. They're just my type.

I've never really found the staff in there attractive, too young and skinny for me. That blonde girl who seems to manage it is beautiful though.

There's nowhere better for food. They'd a lamb shank on there last week and it was sublime. Pricy though, €25.
