From November 2012, all new tyres sold in the EU will have to be submitted to an independent rating system.
They will be rated in accordance with the following:
1. Fuel consumption
2. Noise level
3. Performance in the wet.
They will get a separate rating for each of the above: A to G - like appliance efficiency levels.
So you will know what you are buying from now on.
Well overdue: that will get rid of those cheap (mainly Chinese) tyres - good riddance - lethal in the wet.
