Bomb scare at Opera house

Jasus, we haven't had a decent bomb threat in about 20 years, anyone remember Mandy's on Pana used to get them all the time. Think it was the "don't eat cows" brigade.

Gardaí are searching Cork Opera House this evening after a bomb scare alert.

The alarm was raised around 7pm when a person phoned Anglesea St garda station and claimed there was a bomb in the theatre.

Garda rushed to the scene and said they are liaising with theatre management as the search continues.

The building is currently closed to the public while gardaí use a specially trained sniffer dog in the operation.

The theatre was not in use at the time, however up to 800 people were expected to attend a gig by 2ManyDJs which was due to get underway at 10pm.

A garda spokesman said they are investigating the source of the bomb scare phone call.
