I would, but I don't know all the circumstances of the case (and I don't believe that media reporting always captures the full circumstances of a case). There is a mechanism for his decisions to be appealed by the DPP if they feel that they are unduly lenient. I would be interested to see if his decisions are routinely appealed. That is probably the best test of whether or not they are out of kilter with his peers.

When Judge Pattwell was in north Cork, for example, there were huge appeal lists generated by his sentencing being out of proportion with other judges (and occasionally even with sentencing guidelines).
