2024 Premier Senior Hurling Championship

What exactly is wrong with lads flying home to play with their home club and flying back to the States or wherever for work or pleasure? Such a stupid rule.
You do understand you can only play with one club and need to transfer to another if you want to temporarily play with them abroad?

Harsh on Quirke in my opinion, I truly believe the blame lies with the club.
The secretary filling in the team sheet should have stopped it plain and simple.
The player probably themselves did not know the technicality of a few hours.

The buck stops with the secretary and the same secretary signed all forms and was definitely aware of the rule.
In the ideal world what I personally think would be a fair punishment is I'd revoke the 12 week ban for 2 game ban (rest of group) dock Midleton points and award to Charleville.

On what leeside rebel said I can see his point alright on Blarney last year but I don't think it's the same situation at all so I wouldn't say it's clear and straightforward.
A sub gone wrong and having 16 on field is not the same as player an illegal player when other clubs in the same boat didn't play their players that went to America.
Be interesting to see how the appeal plays out.

GAA penalty for playing a non-registered player if the objection is proven is the game being awarded to the opposition. The fact that the county board has already suspended Quirke should make it easy for Charleville to prove their objection if they submit one.

Shocking mistake by Midleton to make. The fact that the other clubs all knew the rule and followed it shows how simple a rule it is to follow.

Bizarre stuff from Midleton. It's more understandable if they messed up dates etc but if they knew he was ineligible and played him then that's just downright stupid.

I don’t think that’s the relevant section in the rule book.

Midleton getting away very lightly if they keep the points. Apparently as it’s a CCB investigation Charleville aren’t entitled to points or appeal. Seems crazy and unfair.

As long as you're not playing for 2 teams in the same competition, I don't see the problem or issue with time and days apart. Lads up the country play for their club, then come down to UCC a few days later and play in the Cork championship on the Sunday. Make it make sense.

Whatever your view of the rule (it's perfectly reasonable imho), it's there and if it's broken it means you've fielded an unregistered player.

If you've fielded an unregistered player then that's the result scratched and awarded to the opposing side. I don't see how the system can land at any other conclusion.

Chatting to someone from Charleville and by the sounds of it the CCC have made a bit of a balls of the whole thing. Not a good look on their part especially after the Midleton player has received a suspension which I imagine they'll appeal anyway

You’d have the American clubs paying the best players in the country to play with them if those players could be back with their own club a week later.

Thistle, you’d have fellas transferring all over the shop if that was the case, it’s not soccer where you can change clubs like you change jocks.

And don’t get me started on UCC. A club when it suits them, a college when it doesn’t. The only club I know where you don’t have to transfer to
