2024 Premier Senior Hurling Championship

Charleville need to appeal this. The 60 day rule is a reasonable rule. It stops lads going back and forth between the US and here for games. If it was scrapped lads would be flying back and forth non stop and getting well compensated for it. For two months you are either in with the club or out.

However, Quirke should get a lighter ban. Not his fault 100% as who knows the pressures being put on him to play. Of course he knew that he was playing illegally as some of the lads he returned home with would have sat out games for their clubs that weekend.

The fairest outcome would be maybe a 3/4 week ban and the award of the 2 points to Charleville. Midleton would have been aware of the risks as the rules are there for all to see.

Doubt the points would be awarded to charleville but I'd imagine they'll get a replay if they look for it. Based on the re fixture Blarney got last year this is very straightforward and clear

Harsh on Quirke in my opinion, I truly believe the blame lies with the club.
The secretary filling in the team sheet should have stopped it plain and simple.
The player probably themselves did not know the technicality of a few hours.

The buck stops with the secretary and the same secretary signed all forms and was definitely aware of the rule.
In the ideal world what I personally think would be a fair punishment is I'd revoke the 12 week ban for 2 game ban (rest of group) dock Midleton points and award to Charleville.

On what leeside rebel said I can see his point alright on Blarney last year but I don't think it's the same situation at all so I wouldn't say it's clear and straightforward.
A sub gone wrong and having 16 on field is not the same as player an illegal player when other clubs in the same boat didn't play their players that went to America.
Be interesting to see how the appeal plays out.

I agree.
Does anyone have the actual rule

What exactly is wrong with lads flying home to play with their home club and flying back to the States or wherever for work or pleasure? Such a stupid rule.
