The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

Every player is different & plenty of buys from Portugal have been successes in the PL - including Diaz.

For every Bruno Fernandes theres a Victor Lindelof.

Always a bit of a punt I suppose. Same for the Dutch league.

City have done their own line of expensive flops but they're quick to move them on, generally for decent fees.

Anecdotally it seems like PL signings from Portugal have a higher hit rate than most leagues - certainly better than the Dutch league or the Bundesliga.

Enzo at Chelsea looks to be the floppiest ever in terms of value for money - but he's a very good player who perhaps hasn't landed in the most suitable situation and has maybe let his standard slip?

Hes a has been.

Not quite at Darwin Nunez choke levels this season but not far off it.

12 non penalty goals in the league.

Liverpool were completely mental to turn down the widely reported 200 million offer for him last summer

It was a massive blunder for a player who is well past his best.
Apparently 12 league goals is bad now for a winger who missed numerous games with a very rare injury. United would kill for a winger scoring 12 goals from open play. Any team would!

And then basing an opinion around a reported bid that nobody knows actually came or not. Good info.

Lots of kneejerk reactions on here and on X. Players written off all over the shop. I’d accept Salah being sold on the basis of his age and trying to recoup a few pound but his numbers are still very strong and you wouldn’t be selling him based on those. He has always missed chances in the process. That’s just the nature of his game.

Of the players who have played more than 50% of the available minutes so far this season...

- Only Neto has provided assists at a higher rate than Mo @ 0.38 per game (...even then, he's only played 50.7% of minutes and isn't streets ahead at 0.42 per game)
- Only 6 players have scored non-penalty goals at a higher rate than Mo (0.5 per game)

--- Marginal difference compared to these three
Foden (0.51)
Son (0.52)
Nunez (0.53)
--- All very good strikers having good seasons
Watkins (0.61)
Haaland (0.66)
Isak (0.66)

I'd be very wary of labelling him as being past it, especially at the tail end of a season where's he's played at the AFCON and picked up 2 injuries.

But equally, Liverpool have got good value from the first 2 years of his 3 year contract extension. if a big money offer came in during the summer it might be a smart time to sell him to fund a restructure of the attack under the new manager.

Oh and on the big chances scored / missed stats quoted earlier....

Mo has scored 15 of his 28 big chances in the PL (53% - higher than his PL career average of 47%)
Haaland has scored 16 of his 46 (35% - lower than his PL career average of 45%)

None of that fact based stuff around here m8, GIF’s and edited pics stolen from X only. ;)

On a serious note, Salah is still after a fine season. Injury halted his progress a lot. He has crazy standards though and was rarely, if ever, injured so it would be new for him to have his momentum halted like that.

That said, he is ageing and there is an argument to be made that his numbers were helped by a seriously attacking Klopp style of play. With a new manager incoming then he may be better off being moved on for a decent fee but I think people need to be careful what they wish for because we will never see the likes of his numbers again.

Poor Dan, using Fernandes as an example of a top player while sledging Salah for the last few pages here. I didn’t see Salah looking to be subbed off last night when the ball wasn’t rolling his way!

Theres been a huge drop off in the standard of Salah's performance lads.

Its silly to pretend otherwise.

He was complete dogshit from open play in the league games at United and home to Palace.

Two or three seasons ago it would have been unthinkable to sub him in a game they were chasing like last night. Now its just accepted.

He is well past his best and they stand to get nothing like what they could/should have got for him just 8 months ago.
