Immigration Thread

What or where is the genuine alternative?
The current situation is beyond shambolic, But who among the other parties would have managed it any better? Up to recently all of the opposition parties would have been in the let them all in camp but have began to pivot since,
Is there a space for a mcdowell led party?
Lets not carried away. The huge reduction in rejection rates of safe countries like Georgia and Albania have green fingerprints all over it. Check out the change in rejection rates in 2018 compared with 2021. It's astounding.

You can pinpoint the moment the whole system failed back to the moment this ideologue began offering the moon and stars to all and sundry. Obviously FG incompetence played a helping hand in all of this but lets give Roderic his due.

Absolutely nailed it.

The man is a complete halfwit. The Green Party are an extreme left wing outfit masquerading as an environmental group.

Just look at their X spiel, 'progressive' and 'social justice' has shag all to do with the environment.

The 32 million of taxpayers money wasted on the recent referendum should have spelt the end of his political career but we dont seem to do resignations in Irish politics.

Its quite something just how thick as shit his come and get em series of Tweets were.

Incredibly as hundreds languish in tents he still hasnt taken them down!
In fact he claimed in the Dail his tweet promising own door accommodation in 6 months wasnt just that.

There is no support for the Greens calamitous policy of 'integration'. Closing hotels to the public and putting in asylum seekers from mostly safe countries has been a predictable disaster, met with opposition wherever its been railroaded through.

They seem to think baton charging and pepper spraying the public in response to protests is going to be forgotten or forgiven by these voters. Calling any and all opposition far right and parroting nonsensical buzzwords like 'dog whistle' is only serving to further piss off people.

Id have thought the recent referendum results and polling on immigration might have been a wake up call to Irish political parties but it seems unfortunately only the Shinners are half heartedly starting to wake up to public sentiment.

How dare you say SF are only waking up to public sentiment now, MLMD says this has been their policy for years,

Has there been any increase in McEntee's estimate of how many are currently flooding across the border. She initially went for 80%, then over 90%, any more for anymore?

How dare you say our Government, you know, the guys in charge of the levers of power in this state, still haven't woken up to public sentiment despite their not having a coherent policy in place for years. Maybe they'll promise to put one in place after the next election, the only need some time - like with housing and health. Isn't that it jimmy.

But hey, when you're shilling it's much better to be critical of the opposition for the Government making an absolute balls of it

The cracks are starting to widen

"A Fianna Fáil TD has complained that “several” existing immigration laws are not being enforced, and that "only a tiny number" of rejected asylum seekers are "forced to leave."

He urged Helen McEntee to “enforce the laws of the state.”

In a statement this week, Laois-Offaly TD Barry Cowen said that sections 21, 52 and 72A of the International Protection Act 2015 would “allow for the deportation of migrants if their applications for asylum are rejected.”

However, he added: “The Department is not forcing them to leave the country.”

“A total of 957 deportation orders were signed in 2023, but only 17 people were removed under various processes, including 52 people by enforced deportation order,” he said.

the Deputy said that there were “several pieces of legislation” on the statute books currently “that are not being enforced by the Department of Justice.”

“If someone applies for asylum and is rejected, there is a period where they can appeal, and if that appeal is unsuccessful, they should be sent back to their country of origin,” he said.

“But only a tiny number of people are being forced to leave.”

He added: “It’s sending a message that if you come here and apply for asylum, even if you get rejected, you don’t get sent back – you get to stay.

Things are bad for McEntee when this is coming from her coalition partners.

She's such an obvious liability at this stage that Simo must surely be tempted to pull the trigger.
