Here's why people think we're thick fucking stupid.

I find myself in agreement with HappyMonday83.
Why is Keane regarded as a hero by so many people in Cork when he is quite clearly a traitor to his country.
Over here in London he's seen as a prototype thick Paddy - dancing to the tune of bully managers like Clough and Ferguson and revelling in his image as the hard man of the dressing room when actually he's just a social misfit who lacks any breeding and manners.
Seamus heaney - now there's any Irishman who does our country proud.

so the cockneys think he's a thick paddy.

that settles it then. keane you are a fucking disgrace.

Why he felt that he had to come up with the grandparent excuse is beyond me????

You don't think his girlfriend, and indeed himself, having just lost a child, might not want to tell people that are really no more than work colleagues, barely known work colleagues at that, what has happened until they have first had a chance to come to terms with the whole thing themselves, to at least have seen each other first?
It's not exactly the sort of thing you go blabbing about, now is it.

They don't buy the "walked out on his country" line, instead they agree with Keane that the amateurish way the FAI had run the Irish team for years wouldn't be tolerated by a first division club, let alone a serious international side. That he was right to protest a case that he'd been complaining about since before the '94 trip to the States. We think he had a very good point, and that frankly it should not have been Keane who pointed out the futility of the situation, but McCarthy and his staff. Training pitches you couldn't let goalkeepers play on, for fuck sake.
Social Misfit who lacks any breeding and manners? That view of the man can only come for the woeful british sporting press. The very same people who could simply not get their heads around Roy Keane, Manager, and the way he carried himself in his first season at Sunderland. Why couldn't they believe the transformation? Easy, they were always wrong on this "social misfit thug" line that, while it existed on the pitch in no uncertain terms, wasn't the man away from the game at all. If some fools you know believe tosh written by hacks and can't grasp that a players temperament in a match could be different to how the man is away from the game, well, that says more about them than Keane, wouldn't you say?
Could a social misfit thug have been able to persuade so many ex-teammates and youth players to go play for a yo-yo club on the unglamorous North Sea? Not a chance.
