But let's go with something more mundane like Stephen Ireland.
The facts are these - Ireland chose to bottle one of the most important games in this country's recent football history because his girlfriend had a miscarriage.
This is not the girlfriend who is the mother of his two young children but the girlfriend he dumped her for.
In order to do this he lied to his manager,his team-mates and his country and left two elderly ladies ( his paternal and maternal grandmothers ) having to deny reports that they were dead.
He allowed the FAI to spend €70,000 chartering a private jet to get him back to Cork and then presumably watch,with his feet up,while his fellow countrymen did their best but ultimately failed to qualify for Euro 2008 ) excluding,of course,John O'Shea._
AND he'll be picked by Staunton and the FAI for the next game without a word being said.
No wonder people think we're thick fucking stupid.
And over here in London I spend my life defending us from the English buffoons - most of whom have bad breath.
