And go travel, he could really benefit from it. Especially to areas where he thinks he is expert in like Balkans, Russia, Palestine etc.

In light of the backlash against tourists in places like Venice & Barcelonia where they don't want all the tourists coming it suits countries to have people learn about the people & culture at home reading books and going online then going where you are not wanted.

Don't get me wrong I like traveling when doing it rarely but plenty of places I would not be able to go to due to temperature, dietary issues & language barrier, great about interdependent world we can learn and see these places without making the trouble of going and I know what you will say not the same as the real thing but still you don't have to go there to be familiar with the place.

I never used Facebook or others like it. Used Twitter for a long time but found it was becoming a time trap. Deleted my account - haven't regretted it once.

Jimmy, it's you and 90% of the rest of us, m8. It's all happened in a generation. Don't know what the medium or long terms effects will be. Maybe none! But yeah, it's gone mad alright.

Long term effects will be mental health issues especially for people who have no experience of pre social media engagement.

Social media platforms are glorified advertising networks designed to track user habits and keep you scrolling by showing you things you dislike.

I only have FB to keep in touch with folk back home. I barely post there anymore, because it's full of political bot and media sock puppet profiles, mixed with angry and lonely people shouting at windmills.

Twitter has lower content and moderation standards than Pornhub. It's a sewer.
