Sadly, the beautiful game is becoming just as infected with nonsense terms that the bohemian game of Rogby once perfected. So, let’s start to document them here.

Pivot A midfielder.

Double Pivot TWO Midfielders

(We need to work on our vocabulary admittedly. The rugby lads are far more creative)

Press Resistant Sound like a pair of jeans that can’t be ironed. But it describes a player who can come under pressure and still play a pass. I think they used to call them professionals (except Fred)

So, if you know your high block from your cheese block, hit me with your pivot stick.

Transition

Co commentator: See the speed of the transition.

Translation: They were defending because the other team had the ball: They won the ball back and attacked.

Wide areas:
As in get the ball out to ‘them‘ wide areas ….. meaning a bit of free space out on the wing of opposing teams half,

Mobile / mobility:
As in he’s very mobile, or he’s got good mobility ….. meaning he has stamina, can jump and run around a lot, sometimes even fast. Handy enough things to have if you’re a professional footballer.

CDM: A midfielder who joins in with defending. AKA, a midfielder.

CAM: A midfielder who joins in with the attacking. AKA, a midfielder.
